Your files stay on your device
HTML to PNG turns an HTML file, pasted HTML code, or the page you are viewing into a PNG or JPG image. The converter reads the content you select in your browser to make the image. It does not send conversion content to a service.
What stays on your device
The extension handles website content only after you choose a file, paste code, or choose the current page:
- The HTML you convert is read in the converter page's memory. The extension does not write the source content to its persistent database or send it to a service. The converter page can retain it in memory until that window closes.
- Generated images are stored in local browser storage with a 24-hour expiration. Expired results are removed when the extension next runs cleanup. Starting a new conversion clears the visible result but does not immediately erase earlier stored records.
- Page capture details can be saved as a separate JSON file when you save a page capture and leave the details option enabled. It contains the site host, capture time, image dimensions, scale, and checksum.
The extension keeps local preferences for the details-file option and whether you dismissed the rating prompt. It does not keep a list of the pages or files you converted. Downloaded images and details files stay in Downloads until you delete them.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process information to provide the conversion feature you asked for. The analytics used by the welcome, uninstall and rating pages is described below.
Retention and deletion
- The source HTML and pasted code are held in the converter page's memory while that page remains open. They are not written to the extension database.
- Each generated result expires after 24 hours. The extension removes expired records during cleanup, which runs when the extension starts, when the converter opens, and before it saves a new result. If the extension is not used, expired bytes may remain in local browser storage until the next cleanup.
- Files you save to Downloads are managed by you and are not deleted by the extension.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data:
- GDPR / UK GDPR: You can request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability. You can object, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority such as the ICO.
- CCPA / CPRA (California): You can know, access, delete, and correct your data. You cannot be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
The converter does not send the HTML, pasted code, page content, or generated images it processes. If you submit optional feedback on a hosted page, the selected reason and text are routed to the product owner for review.
Security
Your HTML never travels over the network during conversion. Files and pasted code are rendered in an isolated view that cannot run their scripts, so a malicious HTML file cannot act on your browser through the extension.
Children
HTML to PNG is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
What we do not do
The extension has no accounts, ads, or watermarks. We do not sell personal information. The hosting and analytics providers process only the events described below, and the product owner receives optional feedback submitted on the hosted pages.
Welcome and feedback pages
The welcome page sends one install-count event after the first installation. It includes a random installation identifier, product name, and version. A hosting provider receives the request, derives country from the connection, and forwards the event to an analytics provider. The hosted goodbye and rating pages send page-open events used to count removals and rating-page visits by country. Optional feedback text and a selected reason are routed through the hosting provider to the product owner. The converter does not include HTML, page content, or images in these events. Conversions do not trigger analytics.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. The current version always lives here.
